TEST OF CONTINUED ABILITY AND FITNESS TO GIVE INSTRUCTION (CHECK TEST)
All newly qualified ADI’s will be required to attend a Check Test within the first year of qualifying and every two or four years thereafter. The main objective of the Check Test is for the Supervising Examiner ADI to assess your ability to instruct based on the pupils needs. Common reasons for failing to provide appropriate instruction are:
The assessment will be based on the core competencies:
Your result will reflect the lowest mark you achieved within these core competencies. The examiner will give you the result privately immediately after the lesson. This will give the examiner the opportunity to discuss your performance and for you to discuss any matter that you may have concerns with. Although the Registrar may remove your name from the Register after one substandard Check Test with a 2 or 3 grading, you will usually be given a further two attempts. The final test will be with an Assistant Chief Driving Examiner. Your pupil can be a learner or full licence holder, but cannot be an ADI. The Check Test can alternatively be conducted by the examiner carrying out role-play as a pupil. The same rules apply regarding three attempts.
FLEET DRIVER TRAINER CHECK TESTS
If you are registered as a Fleet Driver Trainer, the pupil must have a full driving licence (or ask the examiner to carry out the role of the pupil). Failure to attend your Check Test could result in your name being removed from the Register.

“As a PDI I gained no success with the training at a former establishment. Happy Hour was recommended to me and after training with them I successfully passed the Part 2 and 3 exams. As a qualified ADI, I now work for Happy Hour where I find support and encouragement is always at hand.”
