The new Theory and Hazard Perception Test is made up of two parts (elements).
THEORY
The multiple choice element is delivered using a touch screen computer. Questions appear on the computer screen and candidates select the answer simply by touching the screen.
One question at a time is shown on screen. Underneath the question the answer options are set out. To select an answer touch the button on the screen beside the answer you want. If you wish to change an answer you can do so by simply touching the screen again. If, during the test, there are any questions you are unsure about you can mark them with a 'flag' to go back to later. This helps you to go back to them quickly. You will be prompted to answer any questions that you have not answered fully.
You have 57 minutes to answer 50 questions for this element of the test. (People with special needs can apply for additional time.)
To pass this part of the test you must answer at least 43 out of the 50 correctly. You can practice the theory questions online by visiting www.theory-tests.co.uk.
This part of the test is available in a number of languages. For a full list visit the DSA website.
HAZARD PERCEPTION
After the multiple choice element you may have a break of up to 3 minutes before the second element starts. The hazard perception element will consist of 14 video clips which will feature real road scenes and developing hazards (moving hazards) of various types such as vehicles and pedestrians. You will also see static and environmental hazards, but these do not score points. There are a total of 15 scoreable hazards in the test. Thirteen clips will contain one scoreable hazard and one clip will contain two.
For this part of the test you will use a computer mouse. You can click on either the right or left mouse button to select the hazard. You should click on the mouse as soon as you spot a hazard developing. The sooner you respond, the higher your score will be. The highest mark you can score for each developing hazard is 5 points.
To pass this part of the test you must score at least 44 points out of an available 75.
YOU MUST PASS BOTH ELEMENTS OF THE TEST TO PASS YOUR THEORY AND HAZARD PERCEPTION TEST
After you have completed the test you will be given your results and some feedback on your performance.
“I learned to drive with Happy Hour School of Motoring. I passed my test first time with 2 minor faults. It was a challenging but enjoyable experience. The support from my instructor and the back up from Happy Hour set me in good form and preparation for my driving test. My younger sister is now learning with Happy Hour and we would both highly recommend the company.”
